Welcome 2017! I’ve spent some time this week considering my #oneword365 for this year. I’m not much for new year resolutions, but having a single word to remember during the year helps my focus. Last year’s word was fortunate, and the year before was present ~ both were useful during the year to help remember what’s important.
Two words that have become increasingly important to me the past year are kindness and courtesy ~ and both are aspirations for 2017. It is time to give ourselves and each other room to breathe ~ to be generous in spirit and gracious to each other in everyday living. Smile, say please and thank you, hold doors, get up to help without being asked, and be kind to yourself along the way.
I want to cut myself and everyone else some slack this year. To give myself permission to experiment and accept some less than perfect results. To find some relief in painful moments and generosity in good times.
With all that in mind, my #oneword365 is grace. It embodies all my current aspirations ~ kindness, courtesy, charm and virtue. And it makes me smile because it also means ease of movement ~ and trust me, no one will ever think of me as graceful! I can fall down while standing perfectly still ~ true story.
So here’s to the adventure that is a new year ~ and to hoping it is one that will be filled with grace for all of us.
