november book shelf ~

This week is my monthly book group meeting, and I thought to share a few things that are on my November book shelf. Though the bluwaterread posts aren’t usually the most widely viewed posts on the blog, my bookie friends enjoy them and reading is an important part of my “life enjoyed” ~ so I’m going to share them here each month after our group meeting. You can read more about our book group here {more than 25 years and still going strong!} ~~~

Here’s our book for this month ~ THE LIGHT BETWEEN OCEANS ~ and I highly recommend it! Our group agreed it’s rare that we like both the plot AND the characters, and in this case we did. Set in remote parts of western Australia after WWI, it’s a story of loss, grief, redemption, and love. And as a bonus, there was enough lighthouse lore and logistics to keep me entertained along the way!

Sometimes my creative well begins to run dry, and I need to step back for some perspective and inspiration. I met Amy Howard at a conference this summer and she graciously shared a copy of her book  ~ A MAKER’S GUIDE ~  and it has been a great source of energy and inspiration the past few months. It’s like hearing from a stylish, practical friend urging you to reach for your goals ~ aspirational and attainable. I’m using some of her paint products on a furniture refresh and look forward to sharing the results here on the blog!

I’ve rarely met a cocktail book I didn’t like, and I love my Mason Jar Shaker, so this book is a no-brainer for me. There are several cocktails I’ve added to the list for holiday try-outs, and will definitely share them with our bluwaterpals!

And as a follow-up, the W&P infuser tops are pretty handy too! Infused syrups and flavorings have long been part of my bar arsenal, and this book has added some nifty ones to the collection.

I relaxed my cookbook moratorium for this one recently. Anything that helps improve my pantry and makes it easier to quickly pull together a good meal is worth finding space on the bookshelf. I’m looking forward to making the scones from this cookbook this month ~ hopefully for our upcoming football friends weekend. 🙂

So there’s my current stack ~ book group fiction, creative inspiration, cocktails and cooking ~ several of the “life enjoyed” categories!  See you next month for the December bookshelf!
