Farmhouse? Vintage industrial? Urban minimalist? Classic traditional? Sophisticated glamour? So many home decor styles today, and it gets pretty confusing ~ especially if you like a lot of different styles and are an avid collector of “stuff”. Yep, that’s me!
So the minute I opened the cover of MODERN MIX by Eddie Ross, I was hooked! When is the last time you read a decorating book cover-to-cover? Ever? You will read this one ~ I promise. So many great ideas and tips, and so many GORGEOUS photos. Eddie’s unabashed love of collecting things, layering exuberant color, and his #useyourstuff mantra is a welcome change from the current burlap-wrapped, white slip-covered, neutral everything look that I see on so many blogs. Neutral is certainly nice, but color and collections make really me happy!
Eddie Ross and Jaithan Kochar came to Atlanta recently for a Thursday night book signing party at Steve McKenzie’s ~ one of my fave shopping spots ~ so I was happy to RSVP ~ and as a bonus, I also signed up to go along on Eddie’s Saturday shopping jaunt to Scott Antique Market. A decor and style trifecta!
The market group met up at Scott’s south building on Saturday to do a walk-about with Eddie and Jaithan, who shared great tips and ideas for furniture, decor and tabletop. The market has tons of furniture ready to refurbish, or already redone and ready to go, miles of tabletop vendors, vintage clothing, collectables, artisan crafts, and more than a few surprises ~ wear your walkin’ shoes!
This booth had just about everything for furniture cleaning or repair you could ever need ~ one stop shopping! Eddie shared his favorites, and how he uses them in bringing thrift shop and flea market finds back to life.
A stash of dining furniture in a back corner gave me a few ideas for my dining set that needs some TLC. Eddie was seriously checking out this bar cart. Overhead baggage compartment or shipping?
If you have a fireplace {working or non-working} there are beautiful pieces that can make even a builder-grade fire box look sophisticated. Brass fenders, decorative andirons and wrought iron fire tools, in every imaginable style.
Can’t tell you how hard it was to walk away from these gorgeous cup and saucer sets. And in my favorite turquoise and coral combo. I was strong!
This may be the perfect fabric for my chair that needs recovering!
I wanted to buy strings of these frosted glass beads just for the colors. They would be fabulous on a re-worked vintage chandelier!
I’m enjoying my own modern mix. I shared a bit of it recently in my home office refresh. If bluwaterstyle was a cocktail recipe, it would be something like this ~
~ In a vintage cocktail shaker add ice and equal parts ~
Coastal Cottage
Island Colonial
Useful Storage
~ Shake ’til well blended and strain into whatever glass strikes your fancy
~ Add a dash of vintage industrial
~ Finish with a colorful glamorous twist.
~ Enjoy with a luxe cocktail napkin and a happy sigh!
It was a fun, inspiring day at Scott’s Antique Market, and I’ll share more of the market on my next trip. In the meantime, I have lots of ideas now for the guest room that is getting a reboot. I’ve already got the island colonial and useful storage covered. Now if I can find just the right amount of coastal cottage, the rest will be a breeze! Stay tuned for that reveal down the road. 🙂
If I need any more inspiration I know all I have to do is open a book!
