Is that fall I see peeking through the door? I drag my heels transitioning from summer to fall, though I do like to freshen things up at the start of each season. So I started with some easy bluwaterstyle fall door decor to ease into the new season.
But first ~ speaking of freshening up ~ how do you like the fresh, new coat of paint here at bluwaterlife! And this new look opens up a bunch of fresh, new possibilities too. The next few days are our shakedown cruise to work out any kinks and finish polishing up the brightwork. So, bear with us this week if things are a little off the beam and know we’ll back on course in short order. Hope you like the fresh look for the new season! 🙂
Now back to my easy fall door decor. I’ve shared the interior hallway entrance to my condo before, and that our HOA rules allow some decor. I would love a big porch and entry to decorate and enjoy, but then I wouldn’t have the beautiful community resort-style pool and weekly landscaping, so it’s always a tradeoff.
The hanging container stays year-round and I just change out what goes into and around the container by season ~ flowers, greenery, frames, garland, wreaths, etc.
I also change out the decorative hanger on my WELCOME sign and whatever is hanging out on the small table next to the door.
Here’s a bit more detail on the change-up ~ reusing a small amount of stuff from prior years. Small is the operative word here, as storage is at a premium at my place, so I mostly do the 80/20 rule. Reuse and recycle at least 80% existing stuff and buy 20% or less as new, and donate anything left over. This year is a 100% reuse year, but I still changed things up.
Here’s the door side table basket with green boxwood insert and some fall things from last year, ready for an update. Starting with reusing the silk button mums trimmed short and added into the boxwood insert ~ three minutes start to finish!
A couple of different ribbons from the sale stash, layered around the baskets. This is where my years of Visual Merchandising experience in bow-making comes in handy!
A couple more trimmed flower stems, wrapped with floral tape ~
And tucked behind the bow to finish it off. Less than 15 minutes total for the basket update!
On to the bouquet insert for the hanging container. More reused flower stems, trimmed and wrapped again with floral tape ~
Basket, bouquet and fall leaf hanger for the WELCOME sign ready for the door update!
Here’s a pile of seasonal bouquets, ribbons, cords, and decorative sign hangers from other seasons. A few of these will be retired this year and I’ll add a few new ones. Definitely a new one for Christmas this year!
So, from yellow summertime sunflowers, to seasonal fall colors ~~~
Here’s last year’s bouquet, that I shared as part of our 2014 fall series with some talented blogging friends ~
Two seasons of fall, and summertime color ~ and maybe this year I will remember to photograph the spring door too!
And just because ~ last year’s Christmas door too.
Remember I called this post “easy fall door decor”? Call it easy, low maintenance, low-cost, you can even call it lazy ~ because it’s all true! It’s still summer for a few more weeks, and I’m enjoying every minute, though we’re headed into a new season ~ and it’s peeking through the door!
