Ahh, the power of suggestion! After sharing this cocktail from foodfanatic.com on the bluwaterlife Facebook page last Thursday, I had to have a watermelon cocktail. 🙂 I gathered up some ingredients and ended up with a frozen Watermelon Margarita!
I’ve written before about creating a sort of watermelon sorbet and freezing it in 8oz. Ball Freezer Jars ~ you can read more here ~ and then using the frozen sorbet for Watermelon Mojitos. Another summer favorite bluwaterdrink! The same frozen watermelon base is great for frozen margaritas.
Just dump one 8oz. frozen portion into a blender with 3oz. of tequila and a splash of lime juice ~ sweeten to taste ~ add 2 or 3 ice cubes and blend! The drinks are super cold and icy, but not too frozen. The watermelon sorbet has great flavor and keeps the drinks from being too watery ~ which is often an issue with fresh watermelon cocktails, in my opinion. If you aren’t inclined to make your own frozen base, look for a favorite sorbet in the freezer section at the store.
This was a simple cocktail hour for us ~ just drinks and some mixed nuts to nibble. Oh, and mermaids to ornament the glass rims. This drink would also be more like the Paloma by adding some sparkling water or club soda.
So if you have a taste for summer watermelon, think of it as a cocktail ~ margarita, paloma or mojito! Gotcha covered all three ways. 🙂
Cheers y’all ~~~
