welcome to The Red Bar ~~~
A rainy day in a beach town is perfect for getting off your regular path and exploring the neighborhood. And the first day of our Memorial Day week bluwatergetaway it rained. I mean RAINED. As in DOWNPOUR. A CONTINUOUS DOWNPOUR. I swear the animals were lining up two by two! A look at any weather map showed a swirling mass of precipitation going nowhere for the next 24 hours.
We were just happy to be on vacation and decided to ignore the rain with a day tour of 30A ~ starting in Grayton Beach and ending with Rosemary Beach ~ it’s not a long drive 🙂
Of course that had to include lunch, so welcome to The Red Bar in Grayton Beach ~

grab the umbrella and let’s go ~ I’m starving!
A local favorite, The Red Bar reminds me of my favorite hangout in college. Good food from a limited menu, cash or checks only – no credit cards ~ and music with an increasingly lively crowd after dinner. (For my college friends ~ it’s like a bigger version of Nick’s and there is a beach!!) You know where the name comes from as soon as you step in the door.

looks like the whole neighborhood had the same idea today ~~~

~~~ and everyone is just happy to be here 🙂
Though it was crowded at lunch time ~ I think the entire neighborhood had the same idea ~ we were lucky and were quickly seated at a booth in the bar. And the bar REALLY feels like my favorite college hangout! Right down to the bar stools 🙂
a beach bar on a rainy day ~ sounds good to me ~~~
I snapped this one of a couple of empty bar stools and sent it to my college room-mate while we were waiting for our food. Asked if the stools looked familiar and told her we were saving her a seat 🙂
my oh my ~ do these look familiar?
I had a massive and delicious grouper sandwich. I have eaten so many different grouper sandwiches in sandy beach spots, I think I may have another opportunity to add to hammock inspector! I could write an entire travel guide just on grouper sandwiches and brews du jour ~ 30A Beach Blonde Ale anyone? Bluwaterguy had an equally massive and delicious cheeseburger.
Service was quick, food was very tasty, there was a good time vibe ~ and I felt right at home. Burger, bar, beach, beer ~ beats any day in the office ~ even with pouring rain!
makes me think of where I was in 1995 ~ it was a good year!
After lunch, we braved the rain again and started down the road. I love Grayton Beach. It is definitely a more old school funky beach vibe, and very different from Seaside ~ but that is what I like about 30A. You’ll run out of adjectives before you run out of spots to try ~ quaint, charming, funky, upscale, gentrified, sophisticated, unpretentious, old world, brand new, old school, trendy, hidden gem, hot spot ~ take your pick, it’s all fun and only a short drive away 🙂
Ok, there are shopping opportunities calling my name! More to come ~~~
