Happy kickoff to summer!
To get us started off for the summer season, I’m sharing my own special bluwatersplash cocktail that has never yet been published on the blog. I came up with this early last year, and shared it with friends and folks who asked for it. If you’ve downloaded the drink and bar cards you saw that it was listed, but says “ask the bartender”, so it has been a secret til now. Here it is to share with everyone. 🙂
Blue Curaçao has a slight bitter orange flavor and is less sweet than Triple Sec or other orange liqueurs. I like that the sweetness of the pineapple and Cruzan pineapple rum in this drink softens the bitter orange edge, but keeps things light and not too sweet. If you enjoy tonic water drinks like The Original Boat Drink, you will like this. Yes, it is another rum drink, and another rum for the bar ~ but simple ingredients, and easy to mix up wherever you happen to be. Good for a hot afternoon and it looks like summer in a glass.
Lots more coming up this month. We’re headed to the JB concert and then down to Seaside, FL next week, so there will be more stories and sunsets, and things to drink, eat and laugh about shared here. It’s my bluwaterlife ~ happy summer!

~ taste of the islands & the color of tropical waters ~~~
1.5 oz Cruzan Pineapple Rum
1.5 oz Blue Curaçao liqueur
1.5 oz pineapple juice
.5 oz orange juice
1.0 tablespoon water (optional~martini style)
Combine ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice cubes and shake vigorously until very cold (at least 30 good shakes). Serve over ice as a refreshing highball ~ or add the optional tablespoon of water before shaking, to strain and serve straight up without ice, martini style. (Trust me on this, the extra splash of water mellows the flavors for pouring straight up. If you serve as a highball, the ice serves the same purpose.) Cheers to the summer y’all ~~~
