Lots of progress on my perfect beach cottage since the first update, and lots more to do!
All the walls and doors are complete, the porch window is complete and installed (with shutters!) and lots of interior stuff is well underway. Now if I just had a roof. I need to install the stairs before I put the roof on, and both the stairs and roof projects are major chunks of time ~ so I am procrastinating on them both.
In the meantime, I am doing small immediate gratification things, like painting furniture and filling flower pots. Oh, and how cute is my cottage doggie :-). Her name is Sandy and she’s a tribute to my family’s beloved sheltie trio. They always announce any visitor, so of course Sandy girl is right there in the doorway.
It’s great fun finding ways to combine a few nice miniature pieces with things that I paint or decorate, and adding other improvised bits. If something doesn’t turn out quite right, there’s never more than a few bucks and some time invested in any one thing. Much easier than sweating the details of actual furniture purchases and construction issues. Though I have learned that the initial house kit purchase is the gateway to a miniature habit!
Here’s a peak of the kitchen through the window. It’s like any kitchen project, so the range is not installed and the range hood is sitting on the floor! I’ve been working from the front of the cottage, but will be moving it soon for the roof installation. Then I will be able to work from the open back side and do some of the interior things that need installation, like the kitchen counters and range.
I just finished this cabinet for the upstairs hallway. It was a quick, fun project and turned out well. Soooo hoping that will be the way of the stair installation too ~ quick and fun!
Here’s a full shot of the construction site. Along with the roof work, I will cut down the board that I am using as a base, and that will ultimately serve as the cottage plot ~ with some landscaping of course! I’m also looking for a wheeled table or cart so it has a permanent but movable spot. Did I mention the initial house kit purchase is the gateway to a miniature habit?
So, next up ~ stairs, roof with dormer window, landscaping start, and a few hundred white trim pieces. Oh and the cottage has name now!
