Three of my very favorite words ~ mystery.thriller.series!
Let me happily introduce you to Tom Lowe’s character Sean O’Brien. I’ve read a virtual ton of mystery procedural fiction over the years, and I can sniff out the authentic from the merely trying hard character in the first ten pages. Sean hooked me by Chapter Two 🙂 .
O’Brien is a former Miami homicide detective who took an early retirement after losing his wife to cancer. Now he lives in an old Florida cracker house on the St.Johns River near the Ocala National Forest with his gator-bait dachshund sidekick Max. Of course he falls into considerable mayhem and murder though retired, but otherwise what would be the point?
The author gets the locale feel just right, and the character is like a lot of folks I have met and spent considerable time with…in marinas, in Miami and Orlando, at waterfront restaurants, and of course in Intracoastal watering holes up and down the Atlantic side. The plot lines are current and the reading is addictive. I finished each book I read in a couple of days.
There are a few details that could use a tweak (any book that involves scuba diving has something that pings my dive instructor or proofreader need for correctness…like recreational divers breathe air, not oxygen)…but my willingness to blow past those things are indicative of how much I enjoyed the books. The first read for me was actually on my e-reader…and I liked it so much I switched to the paper books so I could collect the series. I even picked up a paper copy of the one I read electronically…which means I really liked it!
Here’s a link to the authors page on Amazon. I am looking forward to many more in the series. I do hope you meet Sean O’Brien…tell him I said hello!
Happy reading ~ Bluwatergal
