A new year usually brings about some form of resolutions or at least aspirational thoughts. In addition to health and happiness for all my loved ones, I always hope for piece of mind during the year for myself.
I love this photo we took at The Baths on Virgin Gorda, in the British Virgin Islands (latitude +18N 20’ longitude -64W 50’). It inspires me to breathe deeply and think calm, positive things.
It was close to 90 degrees that day, and even with island breezes it was HOT going. This spot was shady and cool, with the sound of gentle surf and light wind in the background. The smooth granite and sparkling water were a beautiful juxtaposition of textures, and the arrangement of these giant boulders placed just so by nature was awe inspiring. A memorable Zen moment.
Inspired by the tropical travel “must-do’s” article from last month, I thought to re-visit a could of amazing spots. The Baths certainly count as amazing. These granite boulders are remnants of the prehistoric volcanic upheavals that formed the archipelago. Found on the south end of Virgin Gorda, the Baths are a boulder maze of tide pools, tight sandy squeezes and some awkward climbs. Several spots are best navigated on your butt if you want to not risk a nasty tumble…but wow is it beautiful.
This trip we did the trail from Devil’s Bay and at the end, hiked up to the TOP OF THE BATHS for a snack and a cocktail. Their fresh water pool was a nice refreshing way to end the afternoon. I’m using this “Zen moment” photo as my iPhone screensaver for January. Hoping it will inspire peace of mind for the the new year.
Wishing everyone heath and happiness in 2012! Bluwatergal
