The Tiki Bar is open and Summer is officially on! We had a great time at Jimmy Buffett’s “Welcome to Fin Land” tour this week, and here are a few shots of our tailgate. It was truly a tailgate, as we used the truck bed as our base for the afternoon. I’ve never been a fan of sitting in the middle of a dusty, gravel parking lot – especially when it is HOT! So we opted for higher ground where we could people watch with some umbrella shade and catch any random breeze blowing through.
We were able to do lots of people watching, chat with folks passing by (several of whom wanted to move right in) and enjoy our beach party feast. We started (of course) with chips and salsa and frozen mojitos. The main event was steak tacos with all the fixin’s and peach margaritas, with cookies, fruit and fluff dip for dessert. The fluff dip is basically cream cheese frosting flavored with orange marmalade and “lightened up” with whipped cream. It is stupid good with fruit, and makes a mean sandwich cookie too!
We had gone to a smaller show in a local club showcasing “Coral Reefer Soul” with Nadira Shakoor and Peter Mayer the night before. Turned out the couple that parked behind us at the “Welcome to Fin Land” show had been at the “CRS” show as well, so it was fun comparing notes with them. They were in a Mini Cooper, and I swear their car could have fit in Bluwaterguy’s F-series super crew with room to spare – but we might have had to give up the blender!
Here’s a shot of the tailgate bar and the peach margaritas (with fresh peaches). The blender is completely sealed, so you can wipe it down and not worry about it getting icky, sticky no matter how much stuff gets sloshed around. And when it is 90 degrees in the shade, just hearing the blender rev up drops the temp 10 degrees. When it was concert time, we loaded the picnic stuff into the back seat, folded the chairs, cranked down the umbrella, and headed into the venue. Oh, and did I mention the center section, aisle seats ~ 18 rows from the stage? Sometimes you just live right 🙂 It was a great show, on a nice night, with an excellent pre-show tailgate ~ even if I do say so myself.
