I’ve tried to convince myself that there are some good points to the change of season. When forced to admit it, there are a few things I like about fall and I made the most of them today. Though outside it was a rainy, miserable day, inside there was home-made chicken soup simmering on the cooktop, college football on television, and good friends on hand to enjoy both. The 5:00 hour was an opportunity to mix up our favorite fall cocktail for the first time this season.
We call it the Bittersweet Snapper. It’s a variation on the Red Snapper shooter, done martini style. It’s smooth, icy, bitter & sweet, and VERY potent. Slip slowly as it will creep up on you before you know it! It’s nice to make use of some of the barware collection, and for the record, pistachios are my favorite cocktail nibble. 🙂
Bittersweet Snapper
1 oz Crown Royal whiskey
1 oz Amaretto liqueur
1.5 oz cranberry juice
Add the 3 ingredients to a cocktail shaker with ice
Shake vigorously until ice cold
Coat the inside of a martini glass with 2 dashes of bitters
Pour/strain cocktail from shaker to glass
Garnish with a lemon twist
Bitters are a personal choice, and for this cocktail we use Regans’ Orange Bitters No.6. This ingredient really makes a difference, adding just the right bitter & sweet note, which prompted the name of the drink. It was a bittersweet afternoon ~ his team won, my team lost, and the rain never ended ~ welcome to fall.
