The 2015 clean-up and freshen-up continues, and I’m finding new spots for some favorite things. I got distracted today (shocking, I know!) looking at my shell decor treasures in this vintage display box ~ definitely some of my favorite things! 🙂
The shells are really beautiful! I collected them over time from some of my favorite places, and I found the display box when I was at a book signing for a favorite author. That’s the trifecta for things I really enjoy ~ beautiful, collected, and a memorable moment. Though I may not be able to remember where I put my coffee cup two minutes ago, I always remember “what, where and when” if there is a good story or memory attached to something.
No one would ever consider me a minimalist. I like my things. They make moments tangible for me. Fun treasure hunting with Bluwaterguy during after-Christmas clearance. The water globe souvenirs collected on vacations. The spontaneous birthday gift found shopping with Bluwatermom last spring, when she could finally get out and about after her knee surgery. I look around and see a collection of memorable moments with people and places I love.
Trying to edit down is an ongoing process. This article from Lee Woodruff about what she learned on the way to a less cluttered and simplified life really hits home for me. In the end, she concludes that things do matter.
Colors and patterns in shells are amazing, and I love this collection. As I’m moving things around, I’m looking for a different spot for the display box. I get distracted looking at the shells, remembering where they came from, and the book signing party where I found the box, and I have to agree ~ it’s ok to think that things matter, at least they do in my bluwaterlife. 🙂
