I love my new Canon PowerShot G16 camera! FYI ~ this is not a sponsored or advertiser supported post ~ just me being super happy with my new camera and sharing that here 🙂
Point and shoot, DSLR, mini cameras, photo accessories ~ so many choices, and all good, depending on what you want to photograph. A new camera was on my wish list for a long time, and I decided to use birthday funds from Bluwatermom this year to splurge.
Research for this sort of purchase is a necessary evil, but not particularly enjoyable. I finally decided on a point and shoot vs a DSLR, and narrowed down to two Canon models. I wanted to hold them in my hands to make the final choice, and found them both at Best Buy in their Camera Experience Shop.
Actually holding them and looking at the different features helped me to decide, and I went with the Canon PowerShot G16, which is a point and shoot with WiFi connectivity. There are many more expensive and less expensive choices ~ just depends on what is right for your needs ~ and this works for me! The G16 takes great photos on full auto, with plenty of manual settings to keep me learning for a long time. I used it on full auto at this year’s Jimmy Buffett concert a few days after the purchase, and was sooooo happy with the results!
Bluwaterguy did the set up to pair my new camera with my iPhone and iPad, so that I can easily share photos online with just a few clicks. Thank goodness for that ~ I had completely exhausted my technical research quota for at least the next quarter! And if I really want to work online with bigger files while I am out and about, I ordered a Karma portable WiFi hotspot to bridge the gap from internet café to home. Camera, iPhone, iPad, Karma hotspot ~ finally, photography freedom!
I’ve shot almost everything around the house to learn about some different settings. Here are a few sample photos from shooting the dining table from across the room. Love that 20x combined zoom with image stabilizer! Oh, and with so many photos and ease of sharing, I was finally motivated to open an Instagram account!
And now for the magic part of this post ~~~
I read a TON of blog posts from different sources while I was doing camera research and comparisons. One of the happy discoveries was this magical app called WATERLOGUE. This iOS app for iPhone, iPad, and iTouch allows you to convert your photo into a wonderful watercolor rendition of your shot. The app has different pre-set options and some combinations that let you tune your shot many ways. Here are the WATERLOGUE versions of the shots I shared above. I’m thinking of framing these as a trio ~ as soon as I come across the right frame 🙂
And here is the WATERLOGUE version of one of my favorite vacation photos of all time. Bluwaterguy snapped this on a whim, while I claimed the Moorings Village dock hammock on vacation in Islamorada. Nothing planned, staged or styled ~ just a perfect moment, spontaneously captured. And now translated in watercolor. Yep, definitely framing this one.
Hope you enjoy trying some new photo adventures of your own. Lots of photo opportunities coming up for the Independence Day holiday 🙂
And maybe we can follow each other on Instagram too!
