It’s funny how something will connect. Maybe it’s because you took an extra 5 minutes to read another bit ~ or something floating around your brain is pinged by some other random byte ~ or as we say at work, because of a solar flare. But, sometimes it’s just there.
This bit has been going round the internet for a few years as “The Mayonnaise Jar Story” and I picked it up from a Facebook friend (thanks Arlene!). I could not find an original source to attribute, but given the nature of the piece, it seems it is meant for sharing.
I liked it very much and thought to create a bluwaterlife version. So it’s shells and water instead of golf balls and coffee ~ but the message is the same.
I put the jar and the card on the entry table where I will see it when I come and go. It’s a Zen moment tied up with a bow!

The sea shells are the important things ~ family, friends, faith, health and favorite passions. If everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.
Pebbles are the other things that matter ~ like your education, job, house, and car.
The sand is everything else ~ the small stuff.
If you put the sand into the jar first, there is no room for the pebbles or the sea shells. The same goes for your life.
If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you.
So ~ pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Spend time with family and friends. Take your partner out to dinner. Read a book in the sunshine on a beautiful day.
There will still be time to clean the house and do the laundry. Take care of the sea shells first ~ the things that are really important.
Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.
Oh ~ and the water?
Never miss an opportunity for a trip to the beach!
